The church of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez
The church of Saint Hilaire is a fine example of neo-Gothic architecture, with its pointed arches, ribbed vaults, symmetrical and regular layout, etc. It also boasts some very fine stained-glass windows. In the 1980s, Henry Simon, a native of the town, was commissioned to paint six canvases. The Sermon on the Mount, The Healing of the Paralytic, Miraculous Fishing, The Breath of Pentecost, The Multiplication of the Loaves and The Agony of Jesus are the six biblical scenes painted by the painter. They can be discovered or rediscovered during church opening hours…
The
departmental cycle path, most of which is on its own site, lets you discover different landscapes at your own pace: the Corniche Vendéenne, the national forest and the dunes.
The
cycling trails (over 50 km) take you not only through the national forest, but also through the freshwater marshes and dunes.
